ECRC Study Resort Pike-Intertown Roads

Posted on October 14th, 2026

The report by the Emmet County Road Commission (ECRC) regarding safety of the Resort Pike – Intertown Intersection has been completed.  The report concludes that while the intersection needs safety improvements, a four-way stop is not recommended due to inadequate sight distance to the intersection for vehicles coming south on Resort Pike.  The study states a concern over rear-end collisions if multiple cars are stopped at the intersection going south on Resort Pike.

Instead of a four-way stop, ECRC is suggesting increased warning signage for all sides of the intersection.  On Intertown they will be adding “2-Way Stop” signs on the stop signs to make it more clear that traffic on Resort Pike does not stop.

On Resort Pike, ECRC is looking at enhanced yellow flashers, new signage advising drivers on Resort Pike to slow down coming into the intersection, and possibly a digital speed sign so drivers can see how fast they are travelling.

ECRC controls decisions on, and construction of, the roads in Resort Township.  The Township though is responsible for funding the majority of the maintenance and improvements.  Most of the above suggested improvements to the intersection will need to be paid for by the Township.  Cost estimates are being prepared by ECRC.
